Scales for warehouse and logistics

Scales for the warehouse and dispatch: a pallet scale at the dock, a parcel scale at the packing table, a crane scale for what hangs on the hook and a pallet truck scale for anyone who wants to know the weight on the move.

Weighing at goods-in, storage and dispatch

At goods-in you check that the delivery matches the delivery note: the quickest way is a U-shaped pallet scale that the pallet truck drives straight into, or a pallet truck scale that takes the weight with it to the racking. At dispatch, the weight determines the freight cost and the choice of carrier: a parcel scale at the packing table, linked to your shipping software, stops you paying extra afterwards. Anything hanging from a hoist or crane is weighed with a crane scale; a lorry or trailer with an axle weigher.

Verified if you invoice by weight

If you charge your customer for freight, storage or handling per kilo, the scale you use to determine that weight must be verified and carry the green M mark. If you only weigh to check or to choose the right carrier, it does not need to be. The versions that can be supplied verified are grouped under verified scales; we supply scales verified from the factory, and re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer.

No socket needed

In a warehouse, the socket is rarely where the scale needs to be. Many pallet scales and pallet truck scales run on a rechargeable battery and last for days on a single charge; battery-powered pallet scales are grouped separately. An indicator on a mobile column, or a wireless display, keeps the cables off the floor.

Connecting to your WMS or shipping software

A weight that is retyped will sometimes be retyped wrongly. The indicators we supply have RS-232, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and software that puts the weight straight into your system. For labels with weight and barcode, there are label printing scales and label printers that connect to the indicator.

Shipping weight, volume and the consignment note

In transport, weight is rarely the only thing that counts. Carriers charge on the higher of the actual and the volumetric weight, so a light box of half a cubic metre costs as much as a heavy one. Anyone who ships daily therefore does not just weigh but also records the dimensions: with a parcel scale that settles quickly and an indicator that puts the weight straight into the shipping software. What to look for in such a connection is explained in connecting a scale to a PC, PLC or ERP. If the weight on the consignment note is wrong, the surcharge arrives a month later - and you only win that discussion with a measurement that has been recorded.

On-site maintenance

We maintain a pallet scale or axle weigher at your premises: calibrating with our own weights and adjusting; for a verified instrument, re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer. What you can check yourself in between is described in maintaining and cleaning a scale. We are authorised by KERN, Adam, OHAUS, Baxtran and Gram to repair and recalibrate their instruments. See verification, calibration and repair.

Frequently asked questions

Which pallet scale suits an ordinary pallet truck?

A U-shaped pallet scale: the two beams are far enough apart for the forks of a standard pallet truck to fit between them, and the pallet rests on the beams. Check the inside dimension for euro pallets and block pallets, as they differ.

Can I get the weight straight onto the consignment note or label?

Yes. The indicator passes the weight to your shipping software or prints it on a label itself. Tell us which package you use and we will choose the connection to suit it.

Does a warehouse scale need to be verified?

Only if you pass on the weighed weight to your customer in your charges. For internal use, checks at goods-in or choosing a carrier, a non-verified scale is permitted.

How heavy can it get?

Pallet scales go up to 3,000 kg, floor scales up to 8 tonnes and crane scales up to 30 tonnes. For a complete lorry, axle weighers and weighbridges are available on request.
