What to look for when choosing
Flat or with a column. A flat model is light and easy to store; a column model has the display at eye level, so you do not have to bend down and the patient does not see the figure. Height rod included if you also record height and BMI; that saves a second instrument and a second step. Non-slip and a wide platform are no luxury for someone who is unsteady on their feet. Battery or mains power: an instrument that travels around the practice should not need a socket.
Verification requirement in healthcare
If you use the weight for a diagnosis, a medication dose or monitoring a treatment, a verified Class III scale is a legal requirement, and it must be re-verified after a repair to the weighing mechanism or a broken seal. For a gym or a company fitness centre that only tracks progress, this requirement does not apply. We supply scales verified from the factory; the initial verification is carried out by the manufacturer and re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer. The range runs from 180 kg to 300 kg. The finest readability is 50 g. Which one you need depends on the smallest weight you still want to see: a scale that goes up to 300 kg reads more coarsely than one that stops at 180 kg.

Take the heaviest item you will ever want to weigh and add the packaging or the pallet. A scale chosen with a much larger capacity reads more coarsely than necessary.
