Retail scales

A retail scale converts weight into price and displays it on both sides of the counter, so the customer can see it too. That is not a convenience but a requirement: if goods are sold by weight, the instrument must be verified and the weight must be visible to the buyer. Our range runs from 3 kg to 1 tonne, from Baxtran, Adam Equipment, KERN and Gram.

Retail scales: weighing in front of the customer

What to look for when choosing

Price computing or weighing only. A price computing scale has memory locations for items with their price per kilo; how many it has determines whether you still have to key in prices by hand. Receipt or label. A receipt printer prints what the customer takes away; a label printing scale prints a barcode sticker that goes on the packaging, and that is a different instrument. Counter or outdoors. At a market a rechargeable battery is no luxury, and splashing water calls for at least a removable stainless steel pan. Connection to the till saves retyping and therefore errors; check that the till system supports the scale's protocol before you buy.

Verification requirement

Anything sold by weight must be weighed on a scale that is legal for trade: the scale must be verified when it is put into service and re-verified after a repair to the weighing mechanism or a broken seal. Using a non-verified scale for trade can result in a fine. We supply scales verified from the factory; the initial verification is carried out by the manufacturer, and re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer. What there is to choose from

The range runs from 3 kg to 1 tonne. The finest readability is 100 mg. Which one you need depends on the smallest weight you still want to see: a scale that goes up to 1 tonne reads more coarsely than one that stops at 3 kg.

Which brands

Here we carry Baxtran, Adam, Kern and Gram. These are brands we are a dealer for, and we are authorised by the manufacturer to repair and recalibrate their scales.

Verified or not

Of these 21 series, 13 can be supplied verified with the green M mark, 61 versions in total. You need that mark as soon as the weight determines what a customer pays. We supply scales verified from the factory; the initial verification is carried out by the manufacturer and re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer. See re-verification.

Weighing, pricing and labelling

If the scale calculates the price, it must be verified - that applies at the counter just as much as in the back. If it also prints a label, more is involved than weight and price alone; see weighing and labelling prepacked food.

Maintenance, calibration and repair

What we sell, we also maintain. You can have a retail scale calibrated with a certificate or repaired with original parts by us; if it is verified, re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer. More under scale service.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a scale from this page verified?

Some of the series here can be supplied verified, with the green M mark. This is shown for each model under "Available verified"; we supply them verified from the factory, and re-verification is arranged through the manufacturer.

What weighing range do I need?

Take the heaviest item you will ever want to weigh and add the packaging or the pallet. A scale chosen with a much larger capacity reads more coarsely than necessary.

Can you also maintain the scale?

Yes. We are authorised by the manufacturer to repair and recalibrate, using original parts.
