The practical classroom
A school scale must be able to take a knock, be operable with two buttons and run on batteries, because in a classroom with thirty pupils the cables end up on the floor. A capacity of 200 g to 2 kg with a readability of 0.1 or 0.01 g covers virtually every experiment in physics, chemistry and biology. A class set of identical scales saves explaining.
Laboratory education
At college and university, students learn to weigh as they would in a real laboratory: on an analytical balance that reads to 0.1 mg, with a draught shield, or on a precision balance for work that can be larger and coarser. We explain the difference under precision balance or analytical balance.
Weights for checking
Checking a scale is an experiment in itself. A set of check weights in class M1 is enough for the school scale; the analytical balance calls for an F1 or E2 weight. Why is explained under OIML classes explained.
Ordering as a school
Schools and institutions can order on account. Ask for a quotation for a class set and we will give you a quantity price. We carry out calibration and repair in-house; see verification, calibration and repair.
From primary school to higher education
A primary school weighs to show that weighing exists: a robust instrument with large digits, two buttons and a pan that can take a bucket of sand. In secondary school the tare function is added, along with calculating density. At college and university it becomes a real balance - draught shield, internal calibration and a calibration certificate, so that practical work matches how things really go in a laboratory. One supplier for all three makes management and replacement easier.
Frequently asked questions
Which scale for a chemistry lab at school?
A school scale of 200 g to 2 kg with a readability of 0.01 or 0.1 g, battery-powered, with a removable pan. For practical work in the upper years, a precision balance with 1 mg.
Do school scales need a calibration certificate?
It is not mandatory. A set of check weights in the classroom is usually enough to show that the scale is accurate, and it makes a useful experiment too.
Can we order on account as a school?
Yes. Send an order or a request for a quotation with your institution's details and we will deliver on invoice.
