Knowing what is on the hook
A crane has a maximum load, and an estimate is not a weight. A crane scale between hook and load shows the weight before you lift, up to 30 tonnes, with a display on the scale itself or wirelessly in the operator's hand. When unloading lorries, placing prefabricated elements and removing rubble and scrap, that is the difference between a guess and a figure on paper.
Measuring tension and compression
For the load test of an anchor, a fall arrest system, a handrail or a lifting eye, you use a force gauge: digital, with peak value and memory, or as a tension/compression test stand for repeated tests on the workbench. The Sauter force gauges from KERN range from a few newtons to tens of kilonewtons.
Robust and cordless
A crane scale hangs outdoors, in rain and dust. Choose a version with a sealed housing, a battery that lasts a day and a display that can be read in sunlight. Battery-powered crane scales are grouped separately.
A certificate for the inspection
During an inspection of lifting equipment or a load test, the inspecting body will want to see that the measuring instrument is accurate. We supply crane scales and force gauges with a calibration certificate, and then calibrate them periodically, at your site or in our workshop.
Weighing materials on the building site
It is not only the load on the hook that gets weighed. Sand, gravel, mortar and big bags go on and off site by weight, and the invoicing is based on it. A floor scale in the shed or a crane scale under the telehandler gives you your own figure alongside the supplier's. If you work somewhere without power, choose a battery-powered version; on a building site, the socket is rarely where the scale needs to be.
Frequently asked questions
Which crane scale for a load of 5 tonnes?
A version with a capacity of at least 6 tonnes, so that you leave room for the weight of lifting slings and chains. We supply crane scales from 300 kg to 30 tonnes.
Can the operator read the weight from a distance?
Yes. Many crane scales have a wireless handheld terminal or a large display with remote control, so nobody has to walk under the load to read it.
Is a crane scale verified?
Usually not, and it does not need to be as long as you do not use it for billing. If you sell scrap or rubble per kilo based on the weighing, it does; some versions can be supplied verified.
