Weighing technology for machine building and installations

If you build a machine, you do not buy a scale but the components to make one: load cells, an indicator that calculates and passes on data, and the software around it.

Weighing as part of a machine

A scale is a finished product: platform, electronics, display. That rarely fits into a machine or an installation. There, load cells sit under a hopper, a silo, a roller conveyor or a frame, the cabling goes to an indicator, and that passes the weight to the control system. What you buy are therefore components with known properties: rated load, sensitivity, protection rating and a wiring diagram.

From load cell to readout

Four cells under a frame, a junction box that combines them, an indicator that reads and zeroes the whole, and behind that an output to your system. That is the chain, and each link determines what the whole can do. We supply them separately and help you think through the combination: what capacity per cell with an asymmetrical load, what cable length is still acceptable, and whether an analogue or digital cell suits the distance and the environment.

Connecting to what you already have

An indicator that only displays the weight is half a solution in an installation. The versions we supply have RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet or an analogue output, and speak protocols that a PLC or PC understands. That way the weight ends up in the control system, the production records or the ERP system, without anyone retyping a number. The software we carry reads out several instruments at the same time.

WPL Industries: developed in the Netherlands

The R10 indicators from WPL Industries are designed and built in Geldermalsen, the Netherlands. For a machine builder, that is the difference between a supplier and a development partner: if an indicator needs to do something that is not standard - a different output, a custom display, an adapted weighing cycle - that is a question for the developer rather than an importer.

Verification of a built-in system

A weighing system built into a machine can be verified just as well as a stand-alone scale, provided the components are approved for it and the construction is correct. If the weight determines the price or the quantity you deliver, it must be - see legal-for-trade weighing and your scale. The verification is carried out by the manufacturer; where verification is not mandatory but traceability is, we calibrate with a certificate.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy individual load cells?

Yes. We supply load cells separately, with their specifications, and help you think through the capacity per cell, the construction and the junction box. Even if you build a frame around them yourself.

Which indicator suits my PLC?

That depends on the output your control system expects: serial, Ethernet or analogue. Tell us which protocol the PLC uses and we will find the right indicator - or have WPL Industries build one that does the job.

Can a built-in weighing system be verified?

Yes, provided the load cells and the indicator are approved for it and the construction meets the requirements. The verification is carried out by the manufacturer. If verification is not mandatory, a calibration certificate is usually what an auditor wants to see.

Do you also do custom work?

Yes. From an adapted weighing platform to an indicator with custom functions. WPL Industries develops its own hardware and software in the Netherlands, so custom work goes further than a different housing.
